13 – 14 November 2023 – International Conference “Prospects of Building the Infrastructure Capacity on the Freight Corridors in EU-Ukraine Border Area”

The organizers of the event were WSB University (Poland), Dolishniy Institute of Regional Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (Ukraine), Institute of Geography of the Slovak Academy of Sciences (Slovakia), University of Debrecen (Hungary), University of Oradea (Romania). This is already the third public event within the project.

The congratulatory messages were delivered by the Director of the Research Institute on Territorial and Inter-Organizational Cooperation, WSB University, Poland, Prof. Dr. Joanna Kurowska-Pysz; Deputy Director for Research of the Dolishniy Institute of Regional Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Ukraine, Prof., Dr Iryna Storonyanska; and Project Coordinator, Head of the Cross-Border Cooperation Sector, Dolishniy Institute of Regional Research of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Ukraine, Assoc. Prof., Dr Khrystyna Prytula.

During the conference, project partners presented the results of research on the development of infrastructure for freight corridors along the Ukraine-EU border. This included the establishment of logistics routes for cargo transportation, increasing the capacity of border infrastructure, promoting multimodal transportation in Ukraine and neighbouring EU countries, as well as implementing green technologies and innovations in freight transport and multimodal terminals.

22 June 2023 – Round table „Multimodal terminals on the territory of Ukraine and neighbouring EU countries“

At the round table, the project partners presented the results of research on multimodal transportation in Ukraine and neighbouring EU countries, the development of transhipment infrastructure, particularly in border regions, as well as the current state and prospects for improving the organizational and legal environments for the development of multimodal terminals in Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania.

Based on the research results of the throughput capacity of the border infrastructure along the
Ukraine-EU border and the Round Table, the project participants prepared and disseminated
to key stakeholders an Analytical Report.
According to the results of the study of the development of the infrastructure of multimodal
transportation in Ukraine in the context of the change of transport and logistics routes in the
conditions of war an Analytical Report.

Round Table “Multimodal terminals on the territory of Ukraine and neighbouring EU
countries”
held online on 22 June 2023
The aim of the Round Table was to discuss and exchange views on issues regarding the
development of multimodal transportation in Ukraine and neighbouring EU countries, the
development of transhipment infrastructure in the context of strengthening the connectivity
between Ukraine and the EU and to outline the ways of improving the organizational
and institutional environment of the development of multimodal terminals in Ukraine.
Theoreticians and practitioners, among others from Ukraine, Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, and
Romania discussed the issues.

1 December 2022 – Round Table “Freight traffic flows across EU-Ukraine: current trends and future prospects” is ongoing to be held online on 8 December 2022

Round Table “Freight traffic flows across EU-Ukraine: current trends and future prospects” is ongoing to be held online on 8 December 2022.

Partners from Ukraine will present research concerning the existing capacity of road and rail border crossing points at the land border with EU-Ukraine. Participants will discuss ways to increase freight capacity flows at the EU-Ukraine land border through existing border crossing points and transport infrastructure bottlenecks at Ukraine’s border regions.

Partners from EU countries will present topics about the existing transport network (road and rail), infrastructure development from their side of the border, as well as regional, national, and EU legal framework concerning the prospect of increasing the capacity of existing border crossing points or opening new ones at Poland/Slovakia/Hungary/Romania land border with Ukraine.
Representatives of regional and government authorities, policymakers from the Customs Service, researchers, and other stakeholders will be invited to the round table.
